Project history

The development of the project began in 2019 with the creation and publication of videos on the YouTube channel, where the author, as a 13-year-old teenager, presented virtual reconstructions of historical sites of Belarus in the Minecraft game space. The restored sites include the Mir and Nesvizh castles, historical city centers, memorial complexes, including the Brest Fortress, as well as sights of Minsk and other sites.[0].

In 2022, the project was named "SPADCHYNA" in honor of the 100th anniversary of Yanka Kupala's fourth collection "Spadchyna" (1922). This is the first collection of Belarusian classics, first published in Minsk.

At an early stage, users of the project had the opportunity to download game cards through a Telegram bot that provided access to virtual objects. However, in 2024, due to technical limitations, the bot was discontinued. As an alternative, the project's website was created, providing users with access to download game worlds created in Minecraft based on the sights of Belarus. The website was developed during the author's studies at the Grodno State College of Engineering, Technology and Design, which allowed combining technical skills with a cultural initiative. All maps are designed for the computer version of Minecraft and work on version 1.12.2.

Technical features

From 2019 to 2021, virtual modeling of architectural objects was carried out exclusively manually, without using specialized tools to optimize the construction process. A significant shift occurred during the work on the Architect_Masty project, dedicated to the restoration of the city of Bridges, where for the first time a block constructor from the Minecraft game interface was used, which allowed structuring the construction. In 2023, an external MCEdit program was additionally used to edit maps, which provided more accurate work with scales, terrain, and architectural details.

Achievement

Within the framework of the professional community, the project was presented at the scientific and methodological council organized by the Grodno Regional Institute for Educational Development, where issues of digitalization of the educational environment of the region were discussed[1]. In 2021, the project won the zonal round of the republican contest "100 Ideas for Belarus", which was held in the urban settlement of Voronovo[2].
